An excerpt from an interview with POV Central Director/Chief Creative Officer Enzo Barracuda
Q. First off, can you give us a quick definition of what POV means, with regard to porn?
A. Sure. Put simply, in conventional porn, you are watching other people have sex. In
POV porn/virtual-sex, it’s as if YOU are having sex.
The acronym “POV” stands for “point-of-view.” In the context of film and video, it refers to a camera-placement technique designed to make the viewer a character in the story. It can be used to create a sensation of participating in what the viewer is watching. It is the basis of virtual-reality and virtual-sex experiences. Also, first-person shooter (FPS) computer games.
So POV is referring to the “point-of-view” of the viewer. It is comparable to the second-person point of view in the written text, e.g., a story that contains sentences as “You went to the store today” and so forth. Real life is experienced in POV. POV porn attempts to replicate the visual and auditory sensations you would have during a sexual experience in real life.
